Best Electric Unicycles for Commuting by Budget: Tested Range and Weight

A commuting wheel has a different job from a headline-grabbing 60 mph machine: it has to get you to work and back on one charge, survive rain and potholes, and be light enough to carry up the office stairs. This guide sorts six electric unicycles (EUCs) by budget, from $599 to $2,699, using independent test numbers for range, speed and weight, and a price check across the stores we looked at.
We did not ride these wheels ourselves. Range, speed and weight come from eRideHero's tested roundup of electric unicycles; prices come from the official InMotion US store and from the retailers named in the sources. Battery and motor figures are the ones the retailers list.
What matters for commuting
- Weight. The tested weights run from 35.2 lb (InMotion V8S) to 86 lb (InMotion V14 Pro). If you climb stairs or lift the wheel onto a train, every extra pound is something you carry twice a day.
- Tested range, not claimed range. The six wheels below tested at 20.6 to 43.7 miles. Plan the round trip with a margin, not with the number on the box.
- Ride quality. Suspension helps on cobblestones and potholes; the King Song 16X has none, and eRideHero says rough roads are harsh on it.
- Weather. The V8S is only IP54, so it handles light rain at best; the V11Y is described as strongly weatherproofed for year-round use.
The six wheels at a glance
| Budget | Model | Price | Tested range | Top speed | Weight | Price per tested mile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under $650 | InMotion V8S | $599 | 20.6 mi (33 km) | 21.5 mph (35 km/h) | 35.2 lb (16 kg) | $29 |
| About $800 | InMotion V9 | $799 | 21.5 mi (35 km) | 26.8 mph (43 km/h) | 50.7 lb (23 kg) | $37 |
| About $1,400 | InMotion V11Y | $1,399 | 32.3 mi (52 km) | 36.2 mph (58 km/h) | 66 lb (30 kg) | $43 |
| About $1,550 | King Song 16X | $1,549 | 43.2 mi (70 km) | 31.5 mph (51 km/h) | 53 lb (24 kg) | $36 |
| About $2,000 | Nosfet Aero | $1,999 | 28.2 mi (45 km) | 34.5 mph (56 km/h) | 54 lb (24 kg) | $71 |
| About $2,700 | InMotion V14 Pro | $2,699 | 43.7 mi (70 km) | 42.8 mph (69 km/h) | 86 lb (39 kg) | $62 |
Price per tested mile is simply the price divided by the tested range; it is a rough way to compare value, not a quality score.
Picks by budget
Under $650: InMotion V8S. The lightest proper EUC in the roundup, with a retractable handle. Best on smooth roads and for short, dry commutes. The retailer lists a 728 Wh battery pack for it.
About $800: InMotion V9. eRideHero calls it the best entry-level value. It adds suspension and a 3 in tire for 15 lb more than the V8S, and a retailer lists a 750 Wh battery and a 1,000 W motor. It is the cheapest wheel here with real comfort on bad pavement.
About $1,400: InMotion V11Y. The comfort pick for riders who commute year-round: strong weatherproofing, 1,500 Wh and a 2,500 W motor (7 kW peak) according to the retailer. The trade-off is weight: 66 lb is the heaviest of the intermediate wheels, and the tested range is not class-leading.
About $1,550: King Song 16X. The range pick: 43.2 miles tested, with a retractable handle and a lighter 53 lb body than the V11Y. It has no suspension, so it suits smooth bike lanes more than cobblestones. The retailer lists 1,554 Wh and 2,200 W.
About $2,000: Nosfet Aero. The lightest wheel in the high-performance class and easy to carry upstairs, but its 1,110 Wh battery limits the tested range to 28.2 miles, which is why the price per mile is the highest of the six.
About $2,700: InMotion V14 Pro. The hill climber, with strong water resistance and a 43.7 mile test, listed with a 2,400 Wh battery and 4,000 W. At 86 lb it is only for riders who can store and charge it at street level.
Price check across stores
The same wheel can cost very different amounts depending on where you look:

|---|---|---|
| InMotion V8S | $599 (list $1,099) | $999 at Alien Rides |
| InMotion V9 | $799 to $848 by variant (list $1,299 to $1,398) | $1,299 at Alien Rides, $1,199 at ewheels |

| Nosfet Aero | Not listed | $1,999 at ewheels, $2,099 at Alien Rides (out of stock) |
Official-store list prices are the crossed-out prices on the site, so treat the discount as marketing; the figure that matters is what you actually pay.
Which one for whom
- Light commute or train plus last mile: V8S.
- Daily commute on average roads at the lowest sensible price: V9.
- Year-round riding in all weather: V11Y.
- Longest range for the money on smooth routes: King Song 16X.
- Stairs every day and you want speed: Nosfet Aero.
- Hills and a ground-floor storage space: V14 Pro.
Check your national rules before riding any of these on a public road: they differ widely, and Italy, for example, treats unicycles very restrictively.
Where the sources disagree
- InMotion V11Y: eRideHero's table gives 36.2 mph and 66 lb, while its text says 39.8 mph and 65.5 lb.
- InMotion V8S: the table gives 35.2 lb and the text 35.3 lb.
- InMotion V9 price differs by variant ($799 against $848 on the official store).
- We found no current official-store price for the King Song 16X or the Nosfet Aero in the stores we checked, so their prices come from one retailer each.
