KingSong S22 Pro Review: Tested Range, Speed, Price and the Version Mix-Up

The KingSong S22 Pro is the suspension unicycle for riders who want a big 20-inch wheel, 130 mm of travel and a 4,000 W motor without paying V14 Pro money. It is also one of the most confusing wheels to shop for, because the names S22, S22 Eagle, S22 Pro and S22 Pro+ are used loosely and the spec pages of different stores disagree. This review separates the tested numbers from the claims and lists what to check before you pay.

We did not ride this wheel ourselves. The tested range, speed and weight come from eRideHero; the ride impressions come from two owner-style reviews (Freshly Charged and Everything Electric Unicycle) of the earlier 3,300 W S22; the specs and prices come from KingSong's own store and the retailers named in the sources.

Know which version you are buying

  • S22 (Eagle): the original, listed with a 3,300 W motor and a 2,220 Wh battery. Both reviews below tested this one.
  • S22 Pro: the 4,000 W version. eRideHero lists it with 8,500 W peak, 2,220 Wh, 126 V and a 77 lb weight.
  • S22 Pro+: the name on KingSong's own store, with 2,220 Wh and Samsung 50S cells. ewheels sells a wheel under the same name with a 1,776 Wh battery, so check the watt-hours in the listing, not only the name.

The same KingSong page gives 8,500 W peak in the spec table and 5,000 W in the feature list, and range of 93 miles (150 km) in the table and up to 124 miles (200 km) in the text. Treat those as marketing numbers.

What the tests say

eRideHero measured 42.3 mph and 42.1 miles, close to the speed claim and far below the range claims. That is normal for an EUC, but it matters if you read the 93 or 124 mile figures on a sales page and plan a long trip.

The two reviews of the earlier S22 agree with that range. Freshly Charged got over 40 miles in mixed riding with a 220 lb rider; Everything Electric Unicycle reports about 40 miles for a 170 lb rider, of which only 20 to 25 miles were fast, power-hungry riding. Lighter riders and gentler riding will get more.

The suspension is the main reason people buy it. Freshly Charged calls it the smoothest the reviewer had ridden, with bumps and curbs barely noticed, and says it costs some range. Everything Electric Unicycle likes the adjustable DNM Burner shock and says the wheel feels planted in corners with the knobby tire.

Where it is annoying

  • Top-heavy feel. The weight sits above the axle, which takes time to learn, especially for shorter riders.
  • Slider maintenance. eRideHero lists stock slider maintenance as a con, and Everything Electric Unicycle says the suspension sliders can stick and need regular cleaning and lubrication.
  • Plastic parts. Freshly Charged found the bumper handle, trim, kickstand foot and headlights brittle in early units; the reviewer could not confirm that production units fixed it.
  • Awkward details. The display sits low and is hard to read while riding, the charge ports are hidden and the rubber covers are flimsy.
  • Wet weather. There is no consistent IP rating, so avoid deep water.
  • Not a commuter. At 77 lb it is a wheel for riders who store it at street level.

OneRide (EU)€2,899 including VAT (€2,395.87 without)2-year EU warranty; availability given as end of October

At $2,449 the S22 Pro costs about $58 per tested mile, against about $62 for the InMotion V14 Pro ($2,699, 43.7 miles tested, 86 lb) in eRideHero's figures. In other words you get similar tested range and speed and 9 lb less weight for $250 less, plus what eRideHero calls the longest suspension travel in its roundup (130 mm). The trade-offs, according to eRideHero, are less torque than the V14 Pro and less refined electronics than newer wheels.

KingSong's own US parts store lists an S22 Pro motor kit at $716.70, a controller kit at $579.75 and a suspension kit at $386.70. A battery and charger set is listed at $2,494.50, which is more than the complete wheel; we did not verify that listing. ewheels also sells Gen 3 and Gen 4 motors for the S22 Pro, so ask which motor generation the unit you buy has.

Who it suits

Buy it if you want a long-travel suspension wheel for rough pavement and trails, you ride at speed and you are happy to maintain the sliders. Skip it if you carry your wheel upstairs, ride in the rain a lot, or want the lightest wheel for the money.

Check your national rules before riding on a public road. The OneRide listing quotes 70 km/h on private land and 25 km/h on public roads for the EU, and rules on unicycles vary a lot between countries.

Where the sources disagree

  • Motor: 3,300 W in eRideHero's text and 4,000 W in its own table; 8,500 W or 5,000 W peak on KingSong's page.
  • Battery: 2,220 Wh on KingSong's and OneRide's pages (the OneRide spec table also says 2,200 Wh), 2,160 Wh in another place on KingSong's page, and 1,776 Wh on ewheels for the "Pro+".
  • Water rating: IP54, IP55 or none, depending on the page.
  • Range: 70, 93, 100 to 120 or 124 miles and more, depending on who is selling.
  • Peak torque: 160 Nm on eRideHero, 250 N·m on KingSong's store.
